Tributes flooded in last night for 7-year-old Mark Fordham who was tragically killed in a farm accident.

Mark died after he was pulled into a potato sorting machine at his family’s farm in Co Galway over the weekend.

His school fiends will receive counselling following the horror accident.

Mark was a second class pupil at Kiltiernan National School. Acting principal Bríd Fenlon said Mark would be greatly missed "by all who were privileged to have known him".

"This is a terrible tragedy for the Fordham and extended family, our school and our community," she said.

"We are deeply saddened by this event. Our sympathy and thoughts are with Mark's family and friends," she added.

She added that the school has implemented a Critical Incident Management Plan to help students cope with the death.

"Psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) have supported and advised our staff at this time.

"The school will be open on Monday and Tuesday in an effort to support our pupils and parents deal with this tragic event."

Prayers were said for the dead child at masses over the weekend.
