A Euromillions winner from Mayo who travelled to the capital yesterday headed straight for Starbucks for a strong coffee after collecting his cheque.

The lucky punter managed to match five numbers plus one 'Lucky Star' for last Friday evening’s EuroMillions draw to pocket a cool €319,955.

The Mayo man - who chose to remain anonymous - bought his €6 Quick Pick ticket in the Gem store in Ballyhaunis.

"With the jackpot of €130m last Friday, I was hoping for the best, never thinking I’d be one number away from hitting the jackpot," said the man yesterday.

"I got the winning number slip on Saturday morning, and when I saw the numbers, I nearly cracked.

"I had to get family to check and re-check the numbers for me. I’m still in shock, but loving the feeling."

He said he was going straight to Starbucks for a strong coffee after collecting his cheque.

"This win will definitely get me out of a very tight spot financially. I’ve been there, done that, and I hope to spend a bit of this win, and invest the rest.

"And tonight, I’ll be raising a glass to Mr. Joyce in the West of Ireland. This is one Bloomsday I won’t forget for a while!"
