Elderly siblings brutally beaten and robbed in vicious rural burglary

A man and his sister both aged in their 60s, were last night beaten, tied up and robbed by thugs at their Kildare home.

The attack happened in the townland of Thomastown East, Rathangan at around 8.30pm.

The siblings were at home watching television when they heard a noise at the front of the house.

The man went to investigate the sound and was confronted by a gang of men in balaclavas and baseball caps who were armed with golf clubs.

They beat him to the ground and dragged him back inside where they also attacked his sister, beating her around the face.

The elderly siblings were tied up and their home ransacked.

A sum of money thought to be in four figures was robbed from them and the gang then escaped in a waiting car.

Gardai are investigating but no arrests have yet been made.
