Elderly pedestrian dies after being struck by lorry

A man in his 60s has died after a truck collided with him in Lixnaw, Co Kerry last night.

Gardai in Listowel are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the R557 road last night.

The incident occurred on the Finuge to Abbeydorney stretch of road at Bealkilla, Lixnaw at around 22.40.

A male pedestrian was struck by a lorry before being taken to University Hospital Kerry.

He sadly passed away in the early hours of this morning.

The man was in his early 60s.  

The lorry driver was uninjured.

The road was closed and forensic collision investigators attended at the scene, but it has since been re-opened.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses who may have driven on the road last night, to contact Listowel garda station, the garda Confidential Line on 1 800 666 111 or any garda station.
