Elderly man killed in single-vehicle collision

A man in his 60s died this morning in a single-car crash outside Dundalk, Co Louth.

Gardai in Dundalk are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred on the Dundalk to Castleblaney Road (N53) this morning.

The collision occurred at Rassan (five miles outside Dundalk) on the N53 at approximately 7am this morning.

The driver, a male in his early 60s, was fatally injured in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene.

His body is still at the scene.

The man was the sole occupant of the car

The road has been closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination

Local diversions are in place.

Witnesses to the collision or anyone who was on the road between 6.30am and 7.15am are asked to contact Dundalk garda station on 042 9388400, the garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
