Elderly male pedestrian critical after being struck by car

A man in his 70s is in a serious condition in hospital after being struck by a car in Co Monaghan.

Gardai in Monaghan are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Scotstown yesterday.

Shortly before 10pm, a 74-year-old male pedestrian sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a car on a local road at Bough, near Scotstown.

The injured man was treated by the emergency services at the scene before being removed by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital.

His condition is understood to critical.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was uninjured.

Garda forensic collision investigators are examining the scene of the collision, while local traffic diversions are in place.
