A Dublin man has revealed the split second decision that made him a millionaire over the weekend.

The anonymous Dubliner scooped €1m in the Daily Million draw on Sunday night but he only decided to buy the priceless ticket to get some change for parking.

‘My wife and I travelled into town on Sunday morning to do some shopping and I popped into the nearby Spar shop as I needed to get some change to pay for parking. It’s incredible to think that what I thought was an insignificant purchase could change my family’s lives overnight,’ he said.

The winning ticket was bought in the Spar on Liffey Street in Dublin 1, which also sold a National Lottery ticket worth €3.6m back in 2004.

The last time the Daily Million prize was won was on March 9, in Belmullet, Co Mayo.

‘On Monday, I saw that there had been a winner of the draw in Dublin so I quickly scanned the ticket on the National Lottery phone App,' added the winner.

'We were absolutely stunned. We had a great weekend of celebrations but we will go back to work now and take some time out to let the win sink in properly,’ he said.

As for what he plans to do with the windfall, the new millionaire is keeping very cool.

‘It’s a lovely prize to win. As a family, we all agreed that our first purchase would be a new car as the one we have at the moment is quite old. Also, one or two of our family members are saving to buy houses so we would obviously like to help them.’ he added.
