Dublin taxi driver hijacked by passenger who claimed to have gun

A man has been arrested by Gardai after a taxi was hijacked in Dublin in the early hours of the morning.

The driver picked up a fare in the Crumlin area at 2.45am and was directed to drive to Dolphins Barn, but after a short distance the passenger told the driver to pull over to the side of the road.

He then told the driver he had a gun and held an object to his head, demanding the driver get out of the car.

The passenger then drove away in the taxi and the driver raised the alarm.

The taxi was later found in a car park on the Kylemore Road and a 24-year-old man was arrested nearby.

No weapon was recovered.

The suspect is being questioned at Sundrive Road Garda station.
