Dublin syndicate collects monster EuroMillions jackpot of €88.5m
The winners of the huge €88.5m EuroMillions jackpot have collected their winnings, and they have vowed they won't be getting carried away with their windfall.
Members of the lucky Dublin work syndicate picked up a cheque for €88,587,275, that they scooped in the January 24 draw, at National Lottery offices in Dublin yesterday.
The monster cash prize is the third largest ever EuroMillions win in Ireland.
The winning ticket was sold at the Applegreen Motorway Services station on the M1 Northbound in Lusk, Co. Dublin.
A spokesperson for the syndicate said, ‘We are absolutely delighted. We all have bills to pay with mortgages, loans and whatnot so we are looking forward to the financial freedom that comes with a win of this magnitude,’ they said.
‘We will be having a quiet party with family and friends to celebrate our good fortune. We will not be getting carried away with our win and we will return to normal everyday life as soon as possible. We’re looking forward to enjoying the win with our families and we might indulge by booking our sun holidays in the next couple of days,’ added the spokesperson.
The winning syndicate found out they won the big prize when one of their members checked the numbers on their phone.
‘I was aware that the EuroMillions jackpot was won in Ireland so I had to check the ticket straight away. I scanned the ticket on the National Lottery App and a message flashed up which told me that I had to contact the National Lottery. When I checked the numbers, I was speechless, I couldn’t believe it. It was such an incredible feeling,’ they added.
