One Irish horse racing fan had a bumper day at the bookies to come away with a huge payout - and was agonisingly short of winning a truly astronomical sum of money.

A Dublin punter's Super Heinz bet with Paddy Power yielded six winners and netted him €350, 807, with his final horse, Imperial Way, coming home in third, which denied him a multi-million euro jackpot.

A Super Heinz bet is a 7 selection wager consisting of 120 bets: 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 four-folds, 21 five-folds, 7 six-folds and a seven-fold accumulator.

The punter put down €120 on Whos That (9/2), Grand Partner (14/1), Mega Fortune (9/2), Bacardys (12/1), Disko (6/1), Sizing John (10/3) and Imperial Way (9/1).

“I’m not sure I’ve picked six winners all year, let alone in one afternoon. The gods are obviously smiling down on this chap – who’s been getting lucky before even Valentine’s Day,” a Paddy Power spokesperson said.
