A Dublin mum-of-three had an extremely happy trip to National Lottery HQ when she discovered that her €20,000 scratch card win was actually a €200,000 scratch card win.

The ecstatic single mum bought the €10 All Cash Spectacular scratchcard in Spar in Summerhill Parade, Dublin, while on her way to pick up one of her children from school.

“I went outside and scratched the card and saw what I thought was €20,000. I was so excited I called my mother and we decided to come straight here to the National Lottery office to cash it in. My first thought was that I could go on a sun holiday with the kids. I have never been further than Scotland before.”

However, when she arrived at National Lottery HQ a claims official told her that she had in fact won ten times that amount.

“I went weak at the knees with excitement. It is clear I should have gone to Specsavers!” she joked.

The lucky winner and her mother were joined in the Winners Room by her Dad, who lives close by, and the delighted family celebrated their good fortune with a glass of champagne.

He said: “We are a down to earth, working class family who have been based in the inner city for generations. We are delighted at this win which will make a huge difference to my daughter who is always thinking of others and looking out for people. She deserves to get something back.”

His daughter said apart from a holiday she will build a small extension on her house. “It will take a few days for all of this to sink in.”

A National Lottery spokesperson said staff were thrilled for the winner. “There was a great buzz in the office when we were able to give the happy news to our player that her win was actually 10 times more than she initially thought. We remind all our scratch card players to always read their cards carefully after scratching them.”

Meanwhile another happy scratchcard player popped into the National Lottery office today to claim €25,000 on the new €3 Holiday Cash Scratch Card purchased in Centra on Oliver Plunkett Road in Monkstown, Dublin.

The winner, in his 20s, said that the win will help him make a planned trip to Australia.

“This will be a great help," he said. "It means I can make plans to travel to Australia sooner than planned. It’s a nice amount and will help start a new life there.”

Other winners who had that Friday feeling today were a large family syndicate from Co. Kildare who picked up a cheque for a cool €309,747 after they won the EuroMillions Match 5 + Bonus prize on Friday 5th May.

One of the winning syndicate members dedicated their win to their father whose perseverance as the syndicate leader led them to their massive win, ‘He’s very strict when it comes to the family lottery syndicate,’ she laughed. ‘Every time any of us visit the house, he’s constantly chasing us for our syndicate subscription fees. He’s been nicknamed the ‘God Father’ such is his determination to get us to pay up! It’s just incredible that we’ve won this prize and we’re all very thankful that he kept the syndicate going.’

The Kildare clan purchased their winning Quick Pick ticket on the day of the draw at the Tesco Express store in Bray, Co. Wicklow.
