Two babies were delivered by paramedics attached to the Dublin Fire Brigade in separate cases this morning.

The ambulance crews were attending two call-outs in the north Dublin area but were needed to assist in both births, when it became apparent that neither mother would reach their respective hospitals on time.

The first newborn was delivered by a DFB crew from the North Strand fire station at 1.30am, while the second birth occurred just after 6am this morning.

A crew from the KIlbarrack fire station assisted in the latter birth at 6.10am, with both believed to have been delivered on the journey to the hospital.

A source said that both mothers and newborns "are in good health" and doing well thanks to the assistance of the DFB paramedics.
