An off duty garda was hospitalised following a vicious attack in Bray, Co Wicklow.

Reports indicate that drunken thugs “danced” on Garda Dean Bolger’s head, as he and another off duty officer walked along the Strand Road at 3:30am on Friday.

The brutal assault left Garda Bolger with a fractured skull and fractured eye socket.

Garda Sean Liddy was also attacked during the incident.

Garda Bolger was taken to St Vincent's Hospital by ambulance after the attack but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital because of the serious nature of his injuries.

However he is now back in St Vincent's and is expected to recover from his horror ordeal.

It has emerged that gardai have good quality CCTV of the assault and are looking for three men who all wore jeans and dark zipped jackets with one suspect being described as six feet and four inches in height and the other two around five feet and 11 inches in height.

Garda Bolger is based at Greystones Garda Station while Garda Liddy is based in Bray Station.

Both are aged in their late 20s and described as well-respected officers.
