THIS is the end of a dramatic car chase on Dublin’s M50 where burst tyres on the fleeing vehicle sent sparks flying down the motorway.

There were two arrests made following the crash that came at the end of a pursuit involving several garda cars late last night.

The silver Toyota was also tracked by a Garda helicopter unit during the high-speed chase on the southbound lane of the motorway.

The incident came to an end just before 10 o’clock when the car left the motorway and careered over a curb near the Leopardstown Racecourse complex, sustaining significant damage. A source said that Gardai followed the vehicle for between 30 and 45 minutes, chasing the car “up and down the M50”.

The vehicle being pursued suffered a flat tyre at some point during the chase and witnesses saw sparks coming from the wheel rims.

"Fire sparks" were seen by witnesses coming from the wheel rims of the car.

As many as seven Garda vehicles remained at the scene last night.

One of the men arrested is set to appear at Blanchardstown District Court court this morning.
