A female deer ran wild in an American supermarket after smashing through the glass entrance of the store.

The animal caused a brief hullabaloo as stunned shoppers heard bangs and crashes around the supermarket.

The doe bashed its way into a 'Giant' store in Pennsylvania, according to the York Daily Record.

After figuring out the source of the commotion, customers worked together to 'wrangle' the animal before bringing it outside.

One shopper told the paper that screams of "Deer!" erupted around the supermarket, before he eyed the unfortunate animal hammering towards the bakery section.

The man, a Mr Beck, managed to get the deer outside with the help of two other male shoppers.

"That's like a rodeo record," Beck told the paper.

He added: "I think she was scared from all those people."

It turns out that the deer probably just wanted its morning coffee:

"Then she ran back towards Starbucks, and that's the last I saw her," said Beck.

The animal was long gone by time police arrived following a call from the supermarket, hopefully back to a safer environment.
