The police had a heavy presence today for the funeral of Gerard 'Jock' Davison, who was gunned down on Tuesday morning.

Davison, who has been heavily linked to the brutal murder of Robert McCartney in 2005, was shot dead in the Markets area of central Belfast.

The Provisional IRA boss was taken in a Hearse past the Short Strand and on to MIlltown cemetery.

Three men have already been arrested in connection with the murder, but all have been released unconditionally.

Davison was a senior figure in the criminal gang Direct Action Against Drugs, a PIRA front, responsible for the known murders of nine people.
