“I’m absolutely thrilled”, Daniel tells the Sunday World after Strictly Come Dancing news
Daniel O’Donnell has been announced as the latest celebrity who will appear on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing next month.
The Irish singer is the latest celebrity contestant revealed to be taking part on the popular show.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be asked to do the show,” Daniel tells the Sunday World.
“When the email came in with the offer I didn’t have to think twice about it. As luck would have it, this is the only year that I could do Strictly because I’m on a break for touring.
“Every other year when the show is on I have a residency for several weeks in a theatre in Branson, Missouri. But I’ve always loved Strictly and I never miss the final stages of the show.”
Although it will take him out of his comfort zone, Daniel says he’s ready for the challenge.
“I won’t be at all self-conscious and I intend to have a lot of fun on the show. When opportunities like this come along it’s important to embrace them and run with them."
Sunday World columnist Daniel added: “The BBC could have the pick of all kinds of people, so I'm very flattered that they’ve chosen me among this year’s contestants.”
Daniel joins Peter Andre, Jeremy Vine (BBC news presenter), Ainsley Harriott (celebrity chef), Kellie Bright (EastEnders actress), Georgia May Foote (Coronation Street actress), Katie Derham (BBC presenter) and Carol Kirkwood (BBC breakfast weather presenter), who have already been announced, with more to come.
He revealed he is a huge fan of the show and has been asked to take part in the Christmas special several times, but has always been too busy touring.
