Dad of teen gets RTE to drop McCarron's Late Late slot
RTE have shown troubled GAA star Cathal McCarron the red card after cancelling his appearance on the Late Late Show next week.
The move comes after the father of a 15-year-old girl who had sexual contact with McCarron last year complained to RTE about the Tyrone star’s appearance.
McCarron was due to join presenter Ryan Tubridy (right) on the sofa to talk about his controversial autobiography Out of Control, which reveals how his life collapsed due to a chronic gambling addiction and led him into the seedy world of gay porn.
However, the Sunday World can confirm that McCarron was told on Friday that RTE had withdrawn their invite.
“McCarron won’t be appearing,” said an RTE source. “They are too scared about a backlash after the father of the 15-year-old came forward.”
It’s another crushing blow for McCarron, who was in court again this week following a drunken incident involving police in Dublin earlier this year.
In March, the Sunday World revealed how McCarron had been arrested and questioned about sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl from Co. Kildare.
McCarron, in his book, has strenuously denied knowing the girl was underage. After a file was sent to the DPP in Dublin, it was decided there was no case to answer.
However, the 15-year-old’s dad spoke to the Independent on Friday and revealed how his daughter had needed counselling to help recover from the encounter.
He explained: “To write the book so soon after the incident and to not express any remorse. What does that tell you? It feels like he wants to cash in on what he’s done.
“That just can’t happen, he can’t appear on the Late Late Show.”
