Young man undergoes surgery after 'being stabbed in nightclub queue' following row

A garda investigation into a serious assault has been launched after an 18-year-old man was found lying on John Street, Waterford city last night.

Gardai in Waterford are investigating a serious assault that occurred on John Street in Waterford city.

The attack took place at around 23.30 last night.

Gardai attended the scene and found an 18-year-old lying on the path of John Street.

He was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital, and has undergone surgery.

It is understood that the young man had been stabbed a number of times following a row in a queue for a nightclub.

The young man's current condition is not known but it is not believed to be life-threatening.

RTE News report that he was starting agricultural college in the area this week.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses, in particular anyone who may have been in John Street/John Bridge area of Waterford last night between 11pm and midnight, to contact them on 051 305300, the garda Confidential Line on 1 800 666 111 or any garda station.
