Young man attacked by thugs in Dublin last night has passed away in hospital

A man in his 20s who was seriously assaulted in Dublin last night was this evening pronounced dead at St James Hospital.

The victim was set upon in Cow's Lane at approximately 8.45pm and sustained a serious head injury in a one-punch assault. 

Reports suggest the sickening attack was filmed by onlookers during a row involving a number of people. 

He was rushed to nearby St James's Hospital where he later died

Three men were arrested at the scene and are being questioned at Pearse Street and Irishtown garda stations.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses and say a number of people recorded the fight on their mobile phones.

They are urged to contact Pearse Street garda station on 01 6669000. Anybody who may have witnessed the incident or were in the vicinity of Cows Lane between 8.30pm and 9pm is asked to come forward.
