Woman rushed to hospital after doorstep stabbing in Dublin

A woman in her 70s was rushed to hospital after she was stabbed on her doorstep this morning.

The pensioner was knifed in the chest after answering her door on Oranmore Road in Ballyfermot shortly before 10am.

Sources say at least two people were involved in the attack.

The victim was taken to hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.

Gardaí in Ballyfermot are investigating the attack and the scene has been sealed off for a forensic examination.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: "Gardaí in Ballyfermot are investigating an assault causing harm that occurred at approximately 9.30am on Oranmore Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10.

"A woman in her 70s was taken to St James's Hospital with apparent stab wounds. Her condition is unknown at present and no arrests have been made at the moment."

Gardaí are examine CCTV in the area and will carry out house-to-house enquiries.
