A 34-year-old woman has appeared at a special sitting of Limerick District Court charged with murder.

Monika Matracka (34) was charged with murdering her housemate Michal Rejmer (38) on a date between December 30 and 31 last.

Dtc Sgt Arthur Ryan gave evidence of arresting Ms Matracka on Sunday morning at Henry Street Garda station in Limerick where he formally charged her with Mr Rejmer's murder.

Ms Matracka, with an address at The Pines, Briarfield, Castletroy, Limerick, "did not make any reply after caution," Dtc Sgt Ryan told the court.

The body of Mr Rejmer was found in the back garden of a house in Briarsfield, Castletroy earlier this week.

Mr Rejmar, a Polish national, had not been seen since December 30 and was reported missing on January 6.

Judge Mary Larkin ordered that Ms Matracka receive all necessary medication while in custody.

She also ordered that a Polish interpreter be made available to Ms Matracka at Limerick jail for a consultation meeting with her solicitor and for her next appearance in court.

Ms Matracka, who was granted free legal aid by the court, was remanded in custody to appear before Limerick District Court again next Tuesday.
