A WOMAN has been charged after allegedly attempting to abduct children from crèches in south Dublin.

Gardai launched an investigation following several incidents where a woman was acting suspiciously at childcare facilities and one incident where she almost took a child, but was stopped by staff.

Gardai later arrested the woman and she is before the courts in relation to the abduction attempts.

A Garda spokesman said: “Gardai in Dun Laoghaire investigating a number of abduction attempts arrested a woman aged in her 30s. She was detained and charged in connection with these incident and is currently before the courts.”

Childcare providers in south Dublin were issued with warnings by the Child and Family Agency Tusla last week following the alleged child abduction attempts.

In the letter, Tusla said: “There has been a number of incidents recently where an unauthorised female attempted to remove a child from a few services in your area.

“The Garda Síochána were alerted immediately and there is an ongoing investigation into the matter.”

Tusla asked childcare workers to be vigilant and recommended management carry out a review of services policy on the collection of children by authorised persons.
