Well known New IRA member among those arrested in this morning’s swoop
The arrests made by gardai in Dublin this morning have been described by sources as significant.
According to gardai, an operation into the activities of dissident republicans, involving searches, led to this morning’s arrests.
Heavily armed gardai were involved in the swoop which took four men into custody.
The men are described as being well known to gardai for more than a decade and are also believed to have come to the attention of authorities in the UK and the PSNI.
One individual, a senior New IRA figure, previously faced serious charges but was acquitted.
Two of the men are believed to be currently before the court on unrelated matters.
Two men in their 40s and two in their 20s, were arrested for membership of the IRA and they are currently being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act in Dublin Garda Stations.
