The remains of Vinnie Ryan will be released to his family today ahead of his funeral tomorrow.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the funeral of the father of one who was blasted to death as he sat in his car last week.

Gardai are still trying to establish a motive for the shooting of the 25-year-old but are focusing suspicion on a well-known criminal who is believed to have killed Ryan’s brother Alan in 2012.

Alan Ryan, a real IRA chief, was gunned down for extorting cash from gangsters in Dublin.

However, Vinnie and Alan Ryan’s brother Dermot has insisted that his younger brother had not been involved with the Real IRA since he left prison after serving a sentence for terrorist activities.

Mr Ryan said: “Vincent was a staunch and honourable republican and held his beliefs until his death.

“On his release from prison he did not report back to the IRA, and from that time had solely been concerned with building his business as a barber and creating a family life with his partner Kelly and new-born baby Phoenix and had stepped aside from involvement in republican activity.”

However, it was reported last week that Vinnie Ryan had been quizzed by Real IRA chiefs over the AKM PM md 1963/1965 variant AK47s used in the Regency Hotel attack, read the full story here.
