A MAN in his 30s has been shot dead in Dublin's north inner city this morning.

The incident happened at Avondale House Flats, North Cumberland St off Mountjoy Square at approximately 10am.

It is understood that the man was shot as he sat in a car. Witnesses described two gunmen leaving the scene, and that "three to six shots" were fired.

It is understood that the victim was known to gardai, and had a number of previous convictions. However, he was not thought to have been a major criminal player.

He is a relative of Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch.
