Thug burglars hospitalise 90-year-old man in raid
An elderly man is being treated for head injuries this morning after a pair of raiders broke into his home overnight and threatened him and his wife.
The couple were at their home on the Old Dublin Road, Roscrea, Co Tipperary when two men broke in through a side window at approximately 11.40pm.
The husband, aged in his 90s, was assaulted and the men escaped with a quantity of cash.
His wife, who is in her 80s, was not hurt during the attack.
The man was taken by ambulance to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where he is being treated for head injuries.
The scene has been preserved and gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
A source said detectives are waiting to speak to the couple to get a better description of the attackers.
"They're not in much of a state to speak at the moment. The couple are obviously very shaken by this."
