Three men arrested in connection with gangland shooting
Three men have been arrested by gardai in Limerick in connection with the shooting of crime boss Christy Keane.
55-year-old Keane was blasted in the chest and arms in June 2015.
The mobster had been approached by two masked gunman in the car-park of University Limerick where he was waiting for the gym to open for an early morning workout.
Keane was shot as he ran from the attackers before he collapsed almost 100 metres away where an off-duty nurse gave him first aid until paramedics arrived.
Two men aged in their 30s were arrested early this morning in the Limerick area.
They are currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at Henry Street and Mayorstone Garda Stations.
A third man (50s) was also arrested in Limerick shortly before noon.
He is detained at Roxoboro Road Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.
This brings to 9 the number of people arrested to date.
Investigations are ongoing.
