Shots fired at two houses in same estate in linked attacks

Two houses in a Co Meath estate have been shot at in linked attacks overnight.

Gardai are investigating both incidents which happened just before midnight in Dunboyne, Co Meath.

The houses are in the Woodview Heights estate.

Investigating gardai are trying to establish a possible motive for the attacks on what are believed to be innocent parties.

People at both houses today told they did not know why they were targeted.

While nobody was injured in either incident, there was a young child in one of the houses at the time.

Gardai were present at both scenes this morning until forensic examinations by members of the garda technical bureau could be carried out.

While no physical damage could be seen at one house, marks above the front door of the second property were being investigated as possibly being caused by a shotgun.

"It happened at around half eleven last night. There was two shots fired here and at least one shot fired at the other house," said a man at one of the properties.

"I heard two shots here," he added.

Witnesses reported seeing a car driving away from the scene.

Gardai in Dunboyne are investigating the attacks.
