Limerick crime boss Christy Keane is expected to pull through despite being shot FOUR times in failed assassination bid.

The 54-year-old mobster is likely to be in hospital for a number of weeks as he recovers from gun shot wounds to his chest and arms.

One bullet clipped an artery while another damaged a lung, according to Sunday World sources.

Keane, whose brother Kieran was shot dead in 2003, was today being treated in the high-dependency unit in University Limerick Hospital.

He had been approached by two masked gunman in the car-park of University Limerick where he was waiting for the gym to open for an early morning workout.

Keane was shot as he ran from the attackers before he collapsed almost 100 metres away where an off-duty nurse gave him first aid until paramedics arrived.

Several family members maintained a vigil at the hospital yesterday awaiting news of his condition.

Sources now fear that a revenge attack will be carried out.

“Something has to happen – he is the top dog. They can’t let it go,” a source told the Sunday World.
