Shamed garda who kicked and hit woman faces further sanctions
SHAMED garda Brian Hanrahan is already suspended from the force and is likely to face further disciplinary action.
An Garda Siochana has said it does not comment on internal cases but the Herald has learned that the Limerick-based garda was already suspended as a result of the criminal charges against him.
Following his conviction, Hanrahan (33) is now expected to be disciplined further.
“He was already suspended prior to the sentence hearing after criminal charges were brought against him,” a source said.
“He will now, more than likely, face further and more serious internal disciplinary action.”
Last year Hanrahan was awarded €36,000 in compensation for injuries he suffered while chasing down criminals almost seven years ago.
He suffered injuries to his neck, shoulder and lower back in October 2010 when his garda car was rammed in Limerick.
