Second armed Post Office raid in the space of a few hours

Armed gardai were called to deal with a raid on a post office in Kilkenny, the second such armed robbery around the country today

The robbery happened on Main Street, Mullinavat, Co Kilkenny at approx 12 midday.

A lone raider, a man in his mid 20s, entered the shop with what was believed to be a firearm and left the scene with a sum on money.

He was apprehended by Gardaí a short distance away from the post office and was brought to Thomastown Garda Station where he is detained under Section 30 Offences against the State Act. A sum of money was recovered.

Gardaí are appealing for witness to contact Mullinavat Station on 051898122, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

This is the second armed raid on a post office across the country today.

This morning, three armed men raided a post office in Waterville, Co Kerry.

In that case two men were arrested a short time after the incident but a third raider remains at large.
