CRACK teams of riot officers will be positioned throughout the city, ready to react to any possible threat during the 1916 celebrations.

The teams were utilised in Dublin city centre during St Patrick’s Day, which saw a 70 per cent drop in arrests.

Each van will contain a seven man riot team who are poised to deal with any incident which may arise.

This year’s 1916 celebrations will kick off on Sunday at 12pm when a ceremonial parade takes the 4.5 kilometre journey across Dublin city.

However, in the wake of Tuesday’s attacks in Brussels, specialist garda sniper teams will be monitoring events from key buildings throughout the city.

Meanwhile officers from the Special Detective Unit will be working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the celebrations safe from any possible threat.
