Figures for recorded thefts and related offences have revealed the areas of Dublin most blighted by these types of crimes.

The figures, published in the Herald, reveal that the number of these types of crime in the Dublin region is greater than the total in the remainder of the country combined.

There have been 19,560 thefts recorded in the Dublin Metropolitan Region in the first half of 2015, while the same crime in the other five Garda regions of the country adds up to 18,978 incidents.

That means there are 107 recorded thefts in Dublin every day.

The data also looks at the top 20 Garda stations where these crimes are recorded..

City centre station Pearse Street tops the list with 7,964 thefts per 100,000 people

It was closely followed by the nearby Store Street district, where 6,460 cases were recorded per 100,000 people.

Bridewell Garda Station in the DMR North Central 'D' District recorded 874 theft related crimes per 100,000, with Mountjoy 'U' District and Kevin Street 'A' District recording 829 and 822 per 100,000 respectively.

Rathmines is sixth on the list with 810 per 100,000, Santry is seventh with 797 per 100,000.

Also high on the list is the leafy suburb of Donnybrook (8) with 767 thefts per 100,000, Clondalkin (9) 760 per 100,000 and Kilmainham rounds out the top 10 with 745 per 100,000.

Among the most popular items stolen are bicycles, with the number of thefts increasing by almost 170pc since 2008.
