Rapist Michael Murray is being investigated over claims he used a smuggled mobile phone to harass his victim and a State Solicitor from inside prison.

The sex predator is serving a 15-year sentence for putting a woman through a terrifying rape ordeal, during which her toddler son was dumped on a city street.

Now it has emerged that he orchestrated a vile campaign from inside his jail cell earlier this year, according to Sunday World sources.

Murray is suspected of using the phone to make contact with the woman, who he had subjected to a terrifying 12-hour rape ordeal in a Dublin apartment.

He is also alleged to have set up a fake profile account on a gay sex website, but used the real contact details of a State solicitor. As a result, the person began receiving calls from complete strangers looking for sexual favours, sources added this week.

It also emerged that the smuggled phone had previously been used by another solicitor, who has been questioned by gardaí over how it came into his possession.

She was later arrested and quizzed by gardaí who are investigating the bizarre case.

Sources claim that the smartphone contained sensitive information, including copies of documents used in legal cases which Murray was able to access.

He is believed to have used that information in a bid to harass people on the outside, according to sources.

It is suspected that Murray acquired the smartphone during one of his many hospital visits.

Murray also found a way to top-up the phone’s credit while inside to allow him internet access.

Staff at the Midlands Prison who suspected Murray had access to a phone had been unable to locate it until Murray gave it up.

The predator, who lost his appeal against his conviction for the 2010 sex attack, is now facing the possibility of extra jail time.

The warped pervert is one of the inmates on E3 landing in the Midland Prison, where Graham Dwyer and other high-profile killers and sex-offenders are kept.

He is regarded as a manipulative and unpredictable prisoner and is not allowed mix with ordinary inmates.

He has spent decades in and out of prison after embarking on bizarre crime sprees.

Murray was previously jailed for a bank robbery in which he used a toy gun and then threatened a judge when he took a case to get the toy back.

He has attempted to defend himself at court hearings and once escaped from a hospital in his pyjamas when he had just two months left of a five-year sentence.

At some court hearings Murray has had to be escorted by armed gardaí.

He previously sparked a security alert when being treated at the Mater Hospital, where prison staff feared an associate had attempted to smuggle in a firearm.

In 2010 he raped a woman at her Dublin apartment in a 12-hour ordeal. During the sickening attack, the dangerous fantasist ordered her to wear a high-collared garment and demanded she call him ‘daddy’.

Murray, who said he was snorting the ‘head shop’ drug Mephedrone, started to beat her and threatened to kill her son.

“I had no way out so I had to do what he said,” she told the jury, before detailing a series of sexual acts he performed on her.

When her toddler son appeared in the room, he picked up the child and left him on the street, where he was rescued by a taxi driver.

As gardaí searched for the child’s home, the woman threw plates from her apartment window to attract attention.

Murray who has 20 other convictions is serving a 15-year sentence imposed in 2013 for the sex attack.
