Public asked to stay away from area affected by forest fire

Gardai are asking members of the public to refrain from entering the Cloosh Valley, Moycullen, Co Galway area due to an ongoing forest fire.

In particular the Seanafeastin Road should be avoided except for emergency vehicles and local residents as it is dangerous to enter and there is a possibility of becoming trapped.

The public assistance in relation to this matter is appreciated.

Fire fighters are battling 30 fires around the country, including a major fire in Galway is threatening to destroy one of Ireland's largest wind farms, as Coillte and fire fighters tackle the blaze at Cloosh Valley.

Thousands of acres of forest, moorland and wildlife are now at major risk of destruction according to Coillte, as well as Ireland’s largest wind farm, Galway Wind Park, is also located within this forest, and is at close proximity to the fire.

The Air Corps released footage of the ongoing blaze yesterday which can be viewed here
