A 40-year-old woman from Santa Crus in Bolivia was arrested by gardai and Revenue officials at Dublin Airport’s terminal one shortly before 9:30am on Friday morning.

The pregnant mother-of-one raised suspicions when she landed in Ireland on a flight from Brazil with very little money.

The woman told officers that she was planning to spend one night in Dublin and didn’t know anyone in the country.

The woman was arrested after a swab test showed positive for cocaine.

According to reports in the Star the woman, who is three months pregnant, didn’t cooperate with gardai, customs or medical personnel.

She was taken to Beaumont hospital but medics were unable to perform an x-ray to confirm the presence of cocaine in her body due to her pregnancy.

According to reports an ultrasound could not be completed either because there was no one qualified to do it over the weekend.

A source told the Star: The lady in question has been very unwell and has been getting very sick over the last few days. She has failed to answer questions as to whether or not she has ingested illegal drugs.

“At this point, we believe she has ingested cocaine.

“Usually individuals will ingest somewhere in the region of 100 pellets wrapped in plastic weighing around 1.7kg in total.

“The street value is usually in excess of €120k.

Gardai in Ballymun are investigating the case.
