Police hunt woman who grabbed toddler by the throat and said “that baby would rather be dead”

Police are appealing for information after a woman allegedly assaulted a one-year-old baby in the middle of a Boots pharmacy.

CCTV footage from the store, which is located in The Strand, in central London, has been released as part of the appeal.

A woman can be seen pushing her baby into the pharmacy while being followed into the store by a white woman in her early 60s.

The woman in question is said to be around 5 foot 2 inches tall, of chubby build, with light coloured hair and a boil or eye deformity on her face.

The woman can be seen on CCTV reaching into the stroller and grabbing the child by the throat.

According to police, the baby’s mum though that the suspect was simply fussing over the infant; but when she discovered what was really at play she immediately grabbed the suspect's had to stop her injuring the child.

Reports indicate that the woman said “that baby would rather be dead”, while being escorted from the premises by security.

The suspect, who was wearing a deer stalker hat and a white, red and grey stripped poncho with a brown handbag and black boots, was last seen walking towards Trafalgar Square.
