Pensioner tied up during traumatising armed burglary

A man aged in his 70s was left badly shaken after he was tied up in an armed burglary at his Co. Down home.

Police described the pensioner's ordeal as "terrifying", as his Rathfriland was raided.

Two men, one armed with a firearm, forced their way in to his home on the Banbridge Road between 7am and 8am on Tuesday.

They tied the man's feet with a belt before fleeing with cash.

The victim was left uninjured.

One of the men is described as between 20 and 30 years of age, 5’2” tall, of light build, dark clothing and wearing a balaclava.

The other was thought to be aged in his 30s, 6ft tall of large build and wearing dark clothing.

Detective Inspector Stephen Harvey said: “This was a terrifying incident for this gentleman and he has been badly shaken as a result.

"I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact Detectives at Lurgan Police Station"
