Pensioner injured during terrifying carjacking in Donegal
A pensioner in Co Donegal suffered injuries when he was pulled from his car during a terrifying car-jacking ideal.
The victim, who is in his 80s, was set upon by two men at Lisfannon beach in Buncrana.
The men had been spotted earlier earlier after abandoning a Subaru car which was later seized by Gardai.
The men then tried to steal the car belonging to the pensioner.
However, locals gave chase and managed to apprehend one of the men while the other escaped on foot.
Gardai arrived and arrested the man and he was interviewed at Buncrana Garda station.
He was later charge with assault and will appear at a future sitting of Buncrana District Court.
Gardai are aware of the identity of the second suspect and have started a manhunt for him.
The elderly victim was left shaken, had some bruising but was otherwise uninjured.
One local in Buncrana said “This man in in his 80s and was enjoying the good weather when these two thugs pulled him from his car. He was terrified.
“Thankfully locals gave chased and managed to apprehend one of these thugs. The Gardai arrived quickly and now they will face the courts which is great news.”
Gardai have thanked the public for their help with the investigation.
