Over €1m worth of contraband seized in Revenue sting
A huge quantity of illegal tabacco was seized by Revenue officers at Rosslare Europort yesterday.
Revenue officers at Rosslare Europort seized over two tonnes of tobacco when they stopped and searched a Polish-registered truck as it arrived in Rosslare from Cherbourg in France yesterday morning.
The truck, which was said to contain plastic, was stopped and searched in a routine operation with the assistance of detector dog Alfie.
The driver, a man in his forties, was questioned after the truck was seized, along with the illegal tobacco.
The contraband tobacco has a retail value of more than €1million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €800,000.
