'The Butcher' charged following west Dublin organised crime raid

A man is due in court after being charged by gardai following a raid in the capital on Tuesday.

Gardai have charged 58-year-old Imre Arakas following a planned search of a premises in west Dublin on Tuesday morning.

The Estonian, known as 'the Butcher', is due to appear before Dublin District Court this afternoon.

Following arrest, Arakas was detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007. He remains in garda custody.

The raid was carried out by gardai from the Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, supported by members of the Special Crime Task Force, Emergency Response Unit and Armed Support Unit.

Two other men arrested in connection with the investigation have been released from garda custody without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
