Oberstown inmate hospitalised

Crime DeskBy Morgan Flanagan Creagh

A detainee from Oberstown child detention centre was treated in hospital last night after he was attacked by another prisoner.

Three staff members who attempted to intervene were also injured.

Reports indicate that the youth used a broken cup as a weapon.

All of those who required medical attention have now been released from hospital.

The incident has been referred to the gardaí and they are investigating the circumstances.

It is believed that the attacker is one of the inmates who escaped in July and was recaptured earlier this year.

Meanwhile, people living near Oberstown juvenile detention centre become “increasingly worried” about the number of juveniles escaping from the facility.
