Infamous mobster John Gilligan is reportedly back in Ireland two years after fleeing following an attempt on his life.

The Irish Daily Star are reporting that the criminal returned to Ireland this week, despite the ongoing feud that has erupted in the country's underworld.

According to the Star, Gilligan (63) was spotted in the in the city and in the south west of Dublin just a day after former associate Noel 'Kingsize' Duggan was shot dead in Meath.

Independent sources were unable to confirm to the Sunday World if Gilligan had been spotted.

Gilligan legged it to England on St Patrick's Day 2014 after he survived an attempt on his life at his brother's home in Clondalkin.

While it is unclear why Gilligan may have returned to Ireland at such a dangerous time, it is suggested that he could be back for a Supreme Court hearing next month into CAB's request to sell three homes that belong to the Gilligan clan.
