Kildare drugs kingpin ordered to pay €162,000

The secret drugs kingpin who earned €38million through his cocaine and cannabis racket has been ordered to pay €162k.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Philip Baron (60), who was jailed for 18-years in 2013, had imported drugs to feed his lavish lifestyle.

Originally from Salford in Manchester, but based in Straffan Co Kildare, Baron ran a criminal empire from Ireland for 15-years.

The former truck driver was secretly working with the Kinahan mob and South American cartels, and managed to amass a fortune from shipping drugs.

However, authorities were only able to confiscate €16,000 in Ireland and €146,000 in the UK, from the jailed millionaire.

Baron’s family knew nothing of his drug dealing and his son, Philip jnr thought he would inherit a multi-million euro deck chair business.
