Major manhunt underway as prisoner walks out of circuit court
A manhunt is continuing today following the escape of a prisoner from Cloverhill yesterday.
The young man, aged in his twenties, made his escape at Bray Circuit Court in Wicklow at approximately 11am where his case was being heard.
Gardai are now continuing the manhunt this morning and the Prison Service has launched an investigation.
It is believed the man may have made his escape while he was being led to a holding cell.
The manhunt takes place less than three months after the escape of violent robber Derek Brockwell in February.
Brockwell stabbed the two officers in Tallaght Hospital on February 17 after retrieving a knife left for him in the toilets.
He then escaped on the back of a waiting motorcyle.
In the wake of Brockwell's escape, Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald announced yesterday prison officers escorting violent inmates are to get bullet-proof and anti-stab vests.
