Man sustains head injuries after 'shots fired' during late-night feud row in Kildare estate

A man has sustained head injuries and lacerations following a violent row overnight.

The incident happened in Celbridge, Co Kildare when a large group of people gathered on a local green area as a feud escalated and got out of control.

Neighbours reported hearing two shots being discharged in the Ballymakealy Grove area at around 10pm, before seeing scores of people flee the scene in fear.

One man sustained injuries consistent with being attacked with a weapon such as a machete or axe, including injuries to his head.

The man, who is in in 20s, is recovering in hospital today.

Gardai confirmed they attended a public order incident in the estate last night and are making follow-up enquiries.

Locals said a row had been simmering for some time between two groups but that the sudden eruption of violence last night had left people scared.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
