Man jailed for three months for mooning gardai

A man who exposed his bum to gardai while in full view of a group of Spanish students in Cork city centre has been has been jailed for three months.

46-year-old Mark Turner, who lives with the Simon Community in Cork, received his 100th conviction for engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour on July 7 at Daunt Street.

Inspector Fergal Foley said at around 9:30pm Garda Claire Sheehan and her colleagues were on duty in the area when they saw Turner who was drinking from a vodka bottle.

"He pulled down his trousers and exposed his buttocks to gardai. A large group of Spanish students were present at the time," said the Inspector.

Judge Malone said it was not acceptable to behave like that and imposed a three-month jail sentence on the accused.

Turner also pleaded guilty to a second offence of obstructing pedestrians by begging and being drunk and a danger.

The judge imposed a concurrent one-month sentence for begging and fined Turner €250 for being drunk and a danger.
