Man dies following gangland-style shooting in Dublin's inner city

A man who was shot several times by a lone gunman this evening in south inner-city Dublin has died in hospital.

The shooting occured at around 4.10pm this evening.

The victim is understood to have been in his 50s.

It is understood that the man suffered serious head and chest injuries after the shooting in Dublin 8, which took place on Bridgefoot Street.

The victim was walking in the area when he was shot several times by a lone gunman.

The injured man was taken to St James Hospital.

He died sometime this evening due to the injuries caused by the brutal shooting.

The area where the shooting occurred has been sealed off for technical examination.

A burnt-out car was discovered a short distance away.

A gun has been recovered at the scene.

Paramedics were on the scene shortly afterwards working on the injured man.

The victim is believed to be a convicted drug dealer who survived a previous attempt on his life.

Gardai are investigating if he was a target for the Kinahan cartel, who have been involved in a  ongoing bloody gang war with the Hutch mob which has already claimed seven lives.
