A man arrested and charged last week with possession of €750,000 of cocaine was reportedly disguised as an Irish football fan returning from Euro 2016.

Last Tuesday, Revenue officers stopped and searched a 25-year-old Irish man who arrived at Dublin Airport from Paris, and discovered 11kg of cocaine in his luggage.

The Irish Sun reports that the suspect was wearing an Ireland jersey and travelled on a flight filled with Irish supporters, despite allegedly beginning his journey in South America.

"The aim here was clear – to blend in with real fans returning from the Euros," a source told the newspaper.

"There was such a huge number of people travelling between Ireland and France they obviously thought it would be easy to go under the radar.

"However, they were being watched all the way."

As part of their routine profiling, the officers searched the man's suitcase and found four apparently empty rucksacks, each of which was found to have drugs concealed in the back panels.

"The fact that empty rucksacks were found in the luggage suggests an airport worker somewhere along the route may have been complicit," another source told the Sun, describing the discover of the drugs as "deeply disturbing".

The man was arrested at the scene and transferred to Ballymun garda station.

He appeared in court last Tuesday, where he was charged with the sale, supply and importation of drugs and remanded in custody for one week.
